Aspen woke up to a chilly morning with heavy clouds and new snow on the peaks. Now, just an hour later, the skies are parting on the way to 50 degrees today, and look at our view (you could see it from Aspen Square if you were here). The snow has descended almost all the way down the slope to the base of Aspen Mountain. Time to purchase your ski pass and make a reservation for early season skiing?
After a rainy and cool day yesterday, the Roaring Fork Valley awoke to hints of winter (ie snow) frosting the high peaks. From Independence Pass to Snowmass, and even to Basalt Mountain, snow can be seen creeping down the ski slopes. Although we're still in fall, and expect the temperatures to rise this week, winter is nipping at our toes!
Die hard fans of the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings rejoice! Tomorrow night you can revel in your storied rivalry as Av and Red Wings alumni take to the ice in support of Aspen Junior Hockey's scholarship fund. The puck drops at 5pm at the Lewis Ice Arena in the Aspen Rec Center. The hockey game is the first event in the Stirling Cup All-Star weekend, honoring the memory of Aspen local Stirling Cooper. The weekend also includes the Stirling Cup Golf Tournament on Sunday at the Aspen Golf Course. For ticket information, visit www.aspenjuniorhockey.com or call (970) 920-7081.
