Superb Violin Weekend

If you love the violin, you're in luck this weekend as two of the world's most famous concert violinists perform in the Benedict Music Tent at the Aspen Music Festival. Tonight at 6pm Gil Shaham performs Bartok's 2nd violin concerto with the Aspen Chamber Symphony. The program also includes Beethoven's iconic 5th symphony. Tomorrow afternoon, Joshua Bell performs the Bruch Concerto with the Aspen Festival Orchestra. Saint-Saens' gorgeous 3rd symphony ends the program. For details, visit www.aspenmusicfestival.com.

4th of July Festivities

JULY 4 PARADE.jpg

If you're going to be here for July 4, plan on a day full of activity and classic small-town celebration. At 8am, the Boogie's Buddy Race gets off to a shotgun start. Kids can decorate their bikes at Paepcke Park and then line up and take part in the annual parade, which begins at 11am. The AVSC and the Aspen Art Museum are both holding picnics in the afternoon, and at 4pm the Aspen Music Festival presents its traditional free band concert. Fireworks go off at 9:15 pm, with dancing until 10:30pm at the corner of Mill and Cooper, just a few blocks from Aspen Square!

Theatre Aspen's Season is Underway

To add to Aspen's embarrassment of cultural riches, Theatre Aspen has opened its doors with its first production of the summer, The Full Monty. This frisky show is based on the popular British comic film of the same name. The other shows that will rotate in repertoire this summer are a musical version of Little Women and the new show, The Cottage. Tickets are available by visiting www.theatreaspen.org or calling (844) 706-7387.
