One of the most popular traditional Labor Day Aspen events, the Motherlode Volleyball Classic, has been held since the 1970s. Attracting thousands of spectators and Volleyball athletes of all ages and skill levels, participants converge on Aspen in late August and early September, usually over Labor Day weekend. While here, they enjoy one of the last great weekends of the summer season while playing dozens of exciting games of volleyball in parks all over Aspen.
One of the country’s most competitive events in the amateur divisions, attendees can check in on an exciting Mens' Seniors 60+ match, a Women's Masters match, or a co-ed match. Divisions include championships for Men’s 60s, 55s, 45s and Men’s Master’s divisions, Women’s 45s and Women’s Masters. Regardless of the age group, the volleyball players that play for the Motherlode Volleyball Classic are all competitive and talented, which are two athletic attributes that make for endless entertainment for the spectators. And with approximately 700 teams playing at seven unique sites each year, there is so much volleyball to watch!
In addition to catching some incredible feats of athleticism on the court, spectators can take a break from all of the diving and spiking to grab a delicious picnic meal at the food and beverage concessions stand.
Whether watching the tournament or participating in it, the Motherlode Volleyball Classic provides endless entertainment for all. And while enjoying your next summer/fall Aspen vacation, be sure to make time for a day of hiking on one of Aspen's best hiking trails, shopping for local and organic produce at the Saturday Farmers' Market, which runs from early June to mid-October.
