Olympic Send Off This Afternoon

The Gondola Plaza, at the foot of Aspen Mountain, will be the place to be today to cheer on four local athletes who are leaving shortly for Sochi Russia as members of the 2014 US Olympic Team. The ceremony begins at 4pm and honors Nordic skiers Simi Hamilton and Noah Hoffman, free-skier Torin Yater-Wallace and Jeremey Abbott, of the US Figure Skating Team. Mayor Steve Skadron and SkiCo CEO Mike Kaplan will be on hand to speak and present the athletes with a special gift. Come show your local spirit and cheer on these amazing and dedicated young men.

SkiCo and X Games Ink 5-Year Extension

This is a great day for Aspen and Aspen Square. Not only is this the first day of the 2014 Winter X Games competition, we woke up this morning to the announcement that ESPN and the Aspen Skiing Company have announced the signing of a five-year extension of the X Games in Aspen. That means we'll be hosting the competition through 2019! We love the energy the Games bring to Aspen and to Aspen Square, where we host many folks from ESPN each year. Viva ESPN!
