It was a great weekend of exciting Women's World Cup Ski Racing on Aspen Mountain. Saturday's GS event saw US Team Member Julia Mancuso race to a strong third place finish, on the podium. On Sunday, the top US finisher was young newcommer Mikaela Shiffrin, just 16 years old. She raced to an 8th place finish, and it was exciting to see her race two great, consistant runs. A Colorado resident, Mikaela is a new shining star for the US Team. Congratulaions to all the World Cup racers, and thanks for coming to Aspen!
Snow conditions on Aspen and at Snowmass have been surprisingly good for this opening weekend, and skiers are having fun! Thaksgiving Day was the official opening of Aspen Mountain with top to bottom skiing, and Snowmass has been open for several days already. Slopes were uncrowded and conditions were darn good for so early in the winter. We are enjoying a blue sky Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. Come ski and snowboard with us and enjoy those "first of the season" turns!
The snow has fallen, and Aspen's snow blowing crew has been busy too. They are making final preparations for the big Women's World Cup races scheduled for the Thanksgiving Weekend. Members of the US Women's team are already in Aspen, training on the Aspen Mountain race course. Snowmass is already open for skiers, and Aspen Mtn will be open as of Thursday. Wow, there is plenty of snow up there! Check out the photo of US Racer Sarah Schlepper on the course. Ski season is upon us!
