  • THE POWER OF FOUR - ALL MOUNTAINS OPEN

On December 11th, all four of Aspen's great ski areas will be open for the season! Aspen Mountain and Snowmass both opened with a bang on Thanksgiving Day, and a huge winter storm accompanied those openings, dropping 25 inches of fresh powder for everyone to enjoy! Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk will open on December 11th, and conditions on both of those mountains look to be great! Since the great Thanksgiving storm, we've had 3 more significant snowfalls that have helped to create a good base on all four mountains. Come to Aspen and experience the "Power of Four!"

ASPEN SANTA FE BALLET'S THE NUTCRACKER

This year Aspen Santa Fe Ballet unveils its brand new production of the beloved holiday classic, The Nutcracker. With lavish new scenic designs by Roger LaVoie, this production seamlessly blends classical ballet with circus artists, traditional dances and other unexpected surprises.

Performances are December 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30PM at the Aspen District Theatre. Tickets range from $20-$58.

    IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE

"Teacher says, 'Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings,'" and every time you hear those words, you remember how the story of "It's A Wonderful Life" touched you. This holiday tradition has been adapted for the stage and will be presented at the Wheeler Opera House as a new Aspen tradition!

Aspen Theatre in the Park will produce this timeless classic for four wondrous performances, commencing with a Gala Opening Night on December 21 at 7:30PM, followed by performances on December 22 at 7:00PM, and December 23 at 2:00PM and 7:00PM.

    BUDWEISER HI-FI CONCERT SERIES!

This winter, the BUDWEISER HI-FI CONCERT SERIES presents six live concerts (one per month) that intersect with key events throughout ski season. These free, outdoor, music extravaganzas generate huge excitement among the captive audience of visitors & locals alike, as they feature top national acts around holidays and/or events in Aspen and Snowmass.

The December 18 concert will feature ARI HEST in Aspen right at the base of the mountain at 6:00PM. Other free concerts take place on January 30, February 19, March 17 and April 10.

    STORM THE STARS

The first annual "Storm the Stars" uphill race will take place on the evening of December 18th on Aspen Mountain, followed by an energized "Rock the Stars" party at the Sundeck. Local enthusiasts and regional sports junkies charge up 3000 vertical feet to the top of the mountain using their preferred choice of equipment. Upon finishing, they gain entry into a rocking fundraiser from 7:00PM to 10:00PM with music, food and drink. But not to worry, the party is open to non-hikers as well, so everyone can join in the fun!

    ASPEN FILMFEST ACADEMY SCREENINGS

As the Oscar race heats up, December is now synonymous with the release of the year's most critically acclaimed, most eagerly anticipated movies. Since 1992, Aspen Filmfest has been adding celluloid excitement to Aspen's winter holidays with a slate of the hottest films headlined by top directors and stars. Open to everyone, this two-week extravaganza that runs from December 19th through January 1st offers a sneak peek at some of the films everyone will be talking about come the Academy Awards.
