SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE

Aspen Theatre, formerly known as Aspen Theatre in the Park, has a long history of bringing professional theatre productions and theatre training to the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado. As the organization continues to grow, many accomplishments are completed each year. Come and enjoy the talents of local actors as they perform in a beautiful and well-tended little oasis by the river.

This summer the Theatre presents "Smokey Joe's Cafe," (Book and Concept by Stephen Helper and Jack Viertel) the longest running Broadway review in history. It received seven Tony nominations and won a Grammy. Jam-packed with favorites such as "Stand By Me" and "I'm A Woman", McClendon proclaims it as "the most fun I've ever had in a theatre!"

The show runs June 30th - July 30th.

ASPEN'S OLD FASHIONED 4TH OF JULY

It's an old fashioned July 4th celebration in Aspen featuring races, a parade, a bike rodeo, street dancing, concerts, picnics in the park, bake sales and a full fireworks display. Visit the chamber Web site for a full schedule of events: www.aspenchamber.org.

The fireworks display is scheduled for 9:15 pm over Aspen Mountain.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT

This traveling exhibition brings together the work of an international and intergenerational group of women artists whose works in photography and video reflect a new approach to issues of femininity and identity.

These artists--Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Elina Brotherus, Dorit Cypis, Rineke Dijkstra, Katy Grannan, Sarah Jones, Kelly Nipper, Daniela Rossell, Shirana Shahbazi, and Salla Tykka--create works that possess a quasi-documentary feel and a directness of approach as they engage with such classical art genres as self-portraiture, portraiture (especially featuring young women in the passage from girlhood to adulthood), and landscape. Some of their shared themes include provocative inquiries into youth culture, new notions of beauty, ethnographic techniques mixed with fashion devices, and an interest in journalistic aspects of the media.
