MountainSummit: Mountainfilm in Aspen is an annual film festival that occurs each August and is an offshoot of Telluride’s Mountainfilm festival in May. The film festival began in Telluride in 1979 and as Telluride Mountainfilm puts it, their film festival “uses the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world.” Mountainfilm in Aspen is a curated selection of favorite films from the Telluride festival, so the offerings are sure to entertain and inspire Aspen audiences to get out into nature.
The MountainSummit film festival is heavy on outdoor recreation documentaries, but they also show documentary and fictional films with a strong environmental and social impact. In addition to film screenings, there are Q&As with filmmakers, athletes, and special guests.
You can check out MountainSummit screenings at the Wheeler Opera House in downtown Aspen and also at The Temporary in Basalt (Willits) and the Crystal Theater in Carbondale.
