Aspen's annual salute to winter, Winterskol, begins Thursday January 9. Local favorite events like Wintersculpt, sponsored by Anderson Ranch, Soupskol and the Canine Fashion Show add to the celebratory atmosphere. This year the Mad Hatter's Ball will return to the Hotel Jerome on Thursday. Crazy hats are encouraged, the more outlandish the better! For the complete Winterskol schedule, visit www.aspenchamber.org and click on annual special events.

Good news for skiers and boarders at Aspen Mountain: the Silver Queen Gondola will reopen sometime today, after being shut down due to mechanical problems on December 30. In the meantime, all other lifts on Aspen Mountain are open and provide access to the mountain. Oh, and we got new snow last night!
