The professional theatrical performances staged by Theatre Aspen during the summer season are entertaining, energetic, and impressive. All performances are held in the Hurst Theatre, a white tent located in an idyllic setting along the Roaring Fork River, in Rio Grande Park. The park setting enhances the theater-going experience, especially when it’s combined with actors and actresses who deliver high-energy, engaging performances, whether acting in a side-splitting comedy, a lively musical, or a rich dramatic piece.
Theatre Aspen traditionally presents three different plays in repertoire during its summer season. Past performances include a number of hit musicals, comedies, and dramatic works, many of which have been performed on Broadway. The theater company has put on theatrical works such as Les Misérables, Annie, Ave Q, The Marvelous Wonderettes, Same Time Next Year, and The 39 Steps.
During many of its seasons, Theatre Aspen selects a family-friendly play to run in repertoire, allowing for local and visiting families to introduce children to a fun and new cultural experience. Past Theatre Aspen performances have included You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, 3 Little Pigs, and Frog and Toad.
Theatre Aspen’s 2014 season looks to be one of the most varied ever; from the ribald and heartfelt The Full Monty and a tuneful production of Little Women the Broadway Musical, to the witty comedy of manners, The Cottage.
During your next Aspen summer vacation, plan to spend an evening at the theater with friends, or catch an afternoon performance with the entire family.
