Summer In Aspen
There is a popular saying in Aspen, “Come for the winter, but stay for the summer,” that says it all. Aspen is truly a summer paradise. The weather is perfect – sunny, dry and temperate—and if possible, there is even more to do every day than in the winter. Everyone comes outside to celebrate the precious summer months, because in the mountains, we know how fleeting the warm weather can be.

Whether you want to immerse yourself in outdoor activities, soak up Aspen’s astonishing array of cultural offerings or simply while away the day poolside, this is the place to be during Aspen’s summer months.

Warm Weather Fun
There is so much to do in Aspen in the summer you may never spend any time in your room! Where to begin? Outdoor activities include hiking, climbing, mountain or road biking, white water rafting, jeep tours, gondola rides, horseback riding, balloon rides, fishing, swimming, picnicking, visits to Ashcroft or the Maroon Bells and a night at the Snowmass Rodeo. And that’s just a partial list of what you can do!

Music, Dance, Art and More...
During the summer, Aspen’s cultural side blooms with abundant events that stimulate the mind and satisfy the spirit. The Aspen Music Festival and School runs for eight weeks, offering a daily schedule of concerts, recitals and special events. The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet performs and also presents well-known dance troupes from around the country. Theatre Aspen produces a series of plays that perform in rotation throughout the summer at its theater next to Rio Grande Park. Jazz Aspen Snowmass presents two weekends of outstanding popular music at the end of June and over the Labor Day weekend. And don’t forget the Aspen Writers’ Foundation Summer Words, the Aspen Institute’s Ideas Festival,  the Aspen Art Museum’s shows, Aspen Film’s summerFILM slate of films, Anderson Ranch Art Center’s summer workshops and the Aspen Historical Society’s tours of Aspen’s West End neighborhood and the ghost town of Ashcroft, up in the Castle Creek valley.

Great Classical Music Awaits
The Aspen Music Festival and School is one of the most highly regarded classical music festivals in the world and Aspen is in the enviable position of having it literally in its backyard, in the historic West End, for eight weeks every summer. During its annual season, the AMFS offers a schedule of more than 300 events, including orchestral concerts, recitals, fully-staged operas, master classes, special events and family programs—sometimes more than four events in a single day. Ride the Gondola
One of the highlights of a visit to Aspen in the summer is the ride to the summit of Aspen Mountain on the Silver Queen Gondola. Operating weekends in May and September, and daily June through Labor Day, the ride is well worth taking for the breathtaking scenery at the 11,200-foot summit. It’s a memorable way to enjoy a scenic ride, a picnic, a short hike or lunch at the Sundeck Restaurant in an unforgettable setting. And don’t forget your camera!
