Aspen Square Daily News
We have a favorite tradition in Aspen - the 6" rule. Basically, if it snows 6" everyone gets out on the slopes before going to work. Well, we called it yesterday - but we didn't just get 6", we got 12! Snowmass and Highlands each received 11" and little Buttermilk didn't do too badly either, with 7" of fresh powder. Now the skies have cleared and it's a perfect day for spring skiing. Here's a shot of the Gondola Plaza this morning from Aspen Square.
The weather report calls for 1-3" of new snow today, but since it's been snowing steadily all morning, we should shoot past that prediction in about another hour! Check out our webcams or the link to the SkiCo's Roundshot for the latest look at the weather here in Aspen and Snowmass. In the meantime, the attached picture says it all!
We were interested to read today that terrain park engineers at Buttermilk have been tasked with creating a second halfpipe next to the existing one used for the X Games. Because of our abundant snow this winter, the Aspen Skiing Company has plenty to make a second pipe. The double pipe would be used for a competition sponsored by the Red Bull energy drink company, scheduled for March 22 and 23. The two 22-foot pipes would have a "double-barreled stunt ditch" with rails and boxes along the top.
