Buttermilk Mountain plays host to the first Red Bull Double Half Pipe competition this weekend. Eighteen of the world's top snowboarders, including Louie Vito, Scotty Lago and Greg Bretz, will compete on the double pipe, which has been fitted out with rails, wall rides and airborne transitions between the two pipes. Qualifying competition is tomorrow, March 22 from noon to 3pm and finals will be on Sunday, also from noon to 3pm. The competition will be broadcast on NBC on April 12.
Taking advantage of daylight savings time, the Aspen Skiing Company has announced extended hours for the Aspen Mountain Gondola and Snowmass's Elk Camp Gondola this weekend. On Friday, Snowmass's Elk Camp Gondola and chair lift will stay open until 7pm for the Ullr Nights party. The Aspen Mountain Gondola will remain open until 6pm for skiers and the season's first Party Under the Stars on Aspen Mountain takes place at the Sundeck from 5:30-9pm.
The Aspen Music Festival presents the final program of its 2014 Winter Music Series tonight at 6:30pm in Harris Concert Hall. The featured soloist is Festival-favorite vioinist Robert McDuffie.
