Snowfall in early November has closed Independence pass for the season. We normally see the pass close about this time each year, and the foot-plus of snow on top this week forced the closing. Just too much snow. The pass is always closed for the winter, reopening for Memorial Day Weekend in late May. More snow is on the way!
World Cup alpine ski racing will stop in Aspen for the Thanksgiving weekend this winter again, according to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. Snow has already fallen on the World Cup course on Aspen Mtn, and they are making snow along the course as well. The FIS Alpine World Cup tour comes to Aspen on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29, with women's slalom and giant slalom races during the Thanksgiving weekend. It's always a fun time to be in Aspen, with special events and music all over town and the opportunity to watch the very best women ski racers in the world.
