Aspen Square Daily News
This is a great day for Aspen and Aspen Square. Not only is this the first day of the 2014 Winter X Games competition, we woke up this morning to the announcement that ESPN and the Aspen Skiing Company have announced the signing of a five-year extension of the X Games in Aspen. That means we'll be hosting the competition through 2019! We love the energy the Games bring to Aspen and to Aspen Square, where we host many folks from ESPN each year. Viva ESPN!
The jumps have been created, the half-pine is polished, the ESPN people are in town and the excitement is growing for the return of the Winter X Games Aspen. Starting Thursday the competition will run through Sunday, January 26. If you're anywhere near Aspen, Buttermilk Mountain will be the place to be for high-flying tricks, turns and extreme competition!
The Aspen Times Town Race Series, one of the longest running town race leagues in the US, begins this Saturday, January 18 with a Giant Slalom competition. There will be recreational and advanced divisions. All of the races this winter will take place at Aspen Highlands. Registration begins at 8am in the arcade at the Aspen Highlands Mall and the start time is 10:30am. Additional races will take place over the next two months.
