With at least two feet of fresh snow in the past few days and more predicted this week, Aspen Skiing Co. has extended the ski season by opening Highlands for an additional weekend. Aspen Highlands is open through April 21, and SkiCo will reopen it for the weekend of April 27-28.
“We are skiers and snowboarders and it is snowing like crazy, so of course we will reopen,” said David Perry, SkiCo senior vice president. “This is a big thank you to everyone. Let’s finish the season with smiles on our faces.”

More snow for closing weekend

Spring temperatures gave way this past week to a return of snowy weather and Aspen Mountain and Snowmass have more fresh snow. Conditions were great on our three mountains: Aspen, Snowmass and Highlands. So many skiers said this was the best week of skiing of the whole season with a mix of spring conditions, then more snow, then cold temps and winter conditions again. What a season this has been! Highlands is open for one more week, closing on April 21. There is lots of snow up there!

Schneetag (Snow Day) at Snowmass

Snowmass closing day gets wacky tomorrow, April 14, with the 6th annual Schneetag event at 1pm. Schneetag, or 'snow day' in German, is a competition involving teams of four, who build a craft and steer it down a ski slope and across a 75 x 20 foot pond - usually crashing into the pond. Each team chooses a theme and performs a skit before launching down the slope. It's as silly as it sounds, and makes for a hilarious ending to the ski season at Snowmass.
