Today's paper announced that the Colorado Department of Transportation hopes to open the road over Independence Pass at 2pm tomorrow, May 22. Avalanche control was completed last week, so all that remains is to clear the snow off the road. To make sure you can come over the Pass tomorrow afternoon, visit www.cotrip.org or call 511 from anywhere in Colorado.
Sundays are a great day to do something fun with your family. And what better way to pass the day than by combining science and good food? Sunday, May 18, from 12 noon to 4pm, take the kids over to Science Sundays at Jimmy's Restaurant. This fun event offered by the Aspen Science Center will include three science "stations" featuring cookies (how ingredients interact), taste (what affects our ability to taste) and eggs (how eggs change when used for cooking). Appetizers and snacks will be provided for participants. From 4-5, grownups can investigate the Science of Cocktails!
One of the joys of off season is running into friends at a film at the Wheeler Opera House. Two critically acclaimed movies will be shown tonight, May 14, and next Tuesday, May 21. Tonight's film, "Particle Fever," is a terrific documentary look at the inside story of the creation of the Large Hadron Collider. "The Lunchbox," a charming tale of mistaken identity and connection, will be screened next Tuesday. All films begin at 7:30pm. For details, call the box office at (970) 920-5770 or visit www.wheeleroperahouse.com.
