For such a small town, Aspen has sent many athletes to past winter Olympics, and this year, three of our local athletes will be particpating in the games in Beijing. Reigning hallf-pipe silver medalist Alex Ferreria will be joined by two first-time Olympians from Basalt - Hanna Faulhaber (also a half-pipe skier) and cross-country skier Haley Swirburl. All of these elite athletes grew up competing for the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC). To honor these gifted locals, the Aspen Skiing Company is holding a send-off ceremony at the Gondola Plaza at the base of Aspen Mountain at 4pm today. Come cheer our local athletes and send them on their way!
