The eastern route into Aspen, over Independence Pass, has reopened to passenger vehicles only. Because of the dramatic increase in people trying to drive over the Pass to avoid the ongoing closure of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon, the state police are metering the number of cars that are allowed up the summit at one time. Motorists are being warned to expect delays of up to two hours, as cars will be allowed over the Pass by alternating directions from Aspen's winter gate or from the Twin Lakes side of the highway.
