Aspen shows off its small-town patriotism on the 4th of July, with a multitude of celebratory activities throughout the day. Not to be missed is the parade on Main Street featuring kids on decorated bikes, decorated dogs, plenty of homemade parade floats, fire trucks, veterans, old cars and the famous calliope, bringing up the rear. After the parade, the rest of the day is given over to picnics, a rugby match in Rio Grande Park, a carnival in Paepcke Park, a free afternoon band concert at the Music Tent, dancing in the streets, a film in Wagner Park and the annual fireworks extravaganza over Aspen Mountain. The 4th of July doesn't get any better than this! For the full schedule, visit www.aspenchamber.org.
