The 40th Anniversary of the FOOD & WINE Classic

Summer in Aspen is a celebration of all things food, wine, and adventure. The 2023 FOOD & WINE Classic, held from June 16-18, is a highlight for FOOD & WINE magazine and one of Colorado’s premier annual culinary events.  

The FOOD & WINE Classic consists of three days of epicurean delights that cater to food and wine lovers from around the country. The Aspen summer 2023 celebration commemorates the 40th anniversary of the festival, featuring wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, seminars, dinners, and more.

Attendees include iconic culinary leaders, innovative wine experts, and game-changing beverage connoisseurs gathered for a spectacular adventure set against the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains.

Accessibility to celebrity chefs, engaging cooking classes, and a multitude of delicious tastings make the FOOD & WINE Classic an unforgettable experience. Guests are encouraged to explore Aspen’s incredible restaurants and shops as well as attend interactive sessions and wine dinners hosted by the best in the restaurant business.

The Aspen Ideas Festival

The Aspen Ideas Festival will return June 24-30 this summer in Aspen. This week-long event is sponsored by the Aspen Institute to offer a public place for leaders and field experts to engage in thought-provoking discussions on current issues. 

The festival gives the public opportunities for deeper dialogue on a variety of topics, including religion, arts, science, politics, culture, philosophy, and economics. The 2023 tracks will focus on humanity’s collective journey and include: “We the People,” “The Edge of What We Know,” “Life Well Lived,” “Defining Economic Recovery,” and more.  It’s a great opportunity to explore, discuss, and create solutions for the most pressing issues of our time. 

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear from the most seasoned and provocative thinkers, writers, business people, artists, and leaders as they engage in thoughtful dialogue on relevant issues through panels, presentations, lectures, and interviews.

Maroon Bells

The beautiful, bell-shaped peaks known as The Maroon Bells are arguably one of Aspen’s most notable destinations. These iconic mountains offer unbeatable views along with the opportunity to enjoy outdoor adventures.

The surrounding landscape is covered with lush forests and alpine meadows filled with wildflowers, making it a breathtaking site to behold. The area is also popular with activities such as fishing, camping, mountain biking, and hiking, with numerous trails of varying difficulty meaning there is something for everyone.

Aspen Saturday Market

Starting in mid-June and running through mid-October, the Aspen Farmer’s Market offers Colorado-grown produce and artisanal products in a diverse marketplace for the Aspen community and visitors.

The market runs on Saturdays from 8:30 AM - 2 PM and offers Colorado-grown fruits, vegetables, bread, meats, cheeses, flowers, and homemade crafts from local vendors. The market also offers live music, food trucks, and other activities throughout the day.

Whether looking for a special gift or a way to support local farmers and artisans, the Aspen Saturday Farmer’s Market is sure to have something for everyone.

Aspen Music Festival

Every year from June through August, Aspen’s stages are filled with the music of some of the most talented conductors, soloists, and chamber musicians in the world. The festival is an opportunity to listen to a wide array of performances and events ranging from traditional symphonies to more contemporary works.

Attendees can also enjoy educational activities such as lectures, recitals, classes, and workshops. The festival is also an opportunity for young artist programs to give emerging musicians a chance to gain experience performing in front of an audience.

John Denver Sanctuary

The sprawling gardens of the John Denver Sanctuary begin blooming in late spring/early summer, creating a place of beauty and respite. This gorgeous sanctuary offers stunning views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains with trails winding through meadows and forests for visitors to explore and enjoy.

The sanctuary offers a chance to enjoy the beautiful natural beauty while listening to recordings of John Denver’s music. Several monuments dedicated to his life and work overlook the meadow, while the nature trail features educational signs of local flora, fauna, and ecology.

Summer Programs by ACES

Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) offers week-long summer camps from June 13 through August 11 for children entering Kindergarten through 8th. 

Camps focus on exploring the outdoors, learning about wildlife and habitats, developing a greater appreciation for nature, having fun with friends, and making lasting memories.

Each camp features educational and exciting events and activities led by counselors who are knowledgeable about the local ecology. ACES summer camps are a great opportunity for kids to build friendships and connect to the environment around them.

Bluegrass Sundays

Every Sunday during the summer, locals and tourists alike get to experience live Bluegrass music at its finest on top of Aspen Mountain. 

With the Elk Mountain Range as its backdrop,  this event is held from 2-5 pm on the lawn of Wagner Park with activities offered for children as well as food and drink on the Sundeck. Take a gondola ride up to the top of the mountain, and spend your Sunday listening to live music while basking in the summer sun.
