One of the most scenic festivals of the fall, the Snowmass Balloon Festival, starts tomorrow, September 8, and runs through the weekend. This is the 42nd annual festival, and it's one of the highest-altitude balloon events in the country. Over the three days of the event, more than 30 pilots will compete in races and challenges, including the Carter Memorial Rat Race, the SnowMASS Ascension and X-Marks the Spot target competition. Many of the events begin early in the morning, so the skies throughout the valley will be dotted with colorful hot air balloons - a great sight.
