Whether you are planning ahead for a long weekend getaway or looking to make a summer trip coincide with the festivities, here is everything you need to know about the Fourth of July in Aspen.
This Year's Theme: 1776
The City of Aspen's 2026 Fourth of July celebration carries a fitting theme: 1776, honoring the 250th anniversary of American independence. Guests and locals alike are encouraged to dress the part, think colonial-era costume, period-inspired red, white, and blue, or whatever creative spin you want to put on the founding era. The Grand Marshal this year is Olympic gold medalist and Aspen local Alex Ferreira, making it an especially exciting celebration for the community.

Boogie's Buddy Race | 8 AM | Rio Grande Park
Start the day with a run. Presented by Aspen Valley Health, this community race supports The Buddy Program and offers a 5-mile run, a 5K, and a 1-mile family and canine fun run. It is one of Aspen's most beloved holiday traditions and a great way to get the energy going early.
Kids on Bikes | 10 AM – 11 AM | Paepcke Park
Little ones can decorate their bikes at Paepcke Park before riding in the parade. Free to enter, helmets required, and always a highlight for families with young children.
Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade | 11 AM – 12 PM | Downtown Core
The main event. The parade steps off at 11 AM sharp on Main Street and winds through the heart of downtown. Floats, marching bands, community groups, and plenty of patriotic spirit fill the streets. The route runs from Main Street south onto Hunter Street, west along Cooper Avenue, up to Hopkins Avenue, and finishes on Hyman Avenue. Plan to arrive early to claim your spot along the route.
AVSC 4th of July Picnic | 12 PM – 3 PM | Koch Park
Right after the parade, the Aspen Valley Ski Club hosts a community picnic at Koch Park with games, bouncy castles, dunk tanks, live music, Wagyu burgers, beer, wine, and more. Tickets are required and sell out quickly, so plan ahead.
BANDALOOP Vertical Dance Performances | 1 PM, 3 PM & 5 PM | Wheeler Opera House
One of the more unexpected highlights of the day. BANDALOOP, a vertical dance company that has performed in over 300 locations worldwide, will perform an original work directly on the exterior wall of the Wheeler Opera House. Three performances throughout the afternoon, all free to watch from the street.
Carnival | Post-Parade through Sunset | Rio Grande Park
The carnival continues into the afternoon and evening with the same free rides and festive atmosphere from the night before.

A cherished Aspen tradition. The AMFS brings its ensemble to the tent for a free afternoon concert of patriotic favorites. It is a relaxed and beautiful way to spend the holiday afternoon.
Drone Show | 9:30 PM | Aspen Mountain
The grand finale. Presented by the Aspen Chamber Resort Association and produced by Sky Elements Drones, 800 synchronized drones light up the sky above Aspen Mountain in a choreographed show featuring patriotic tributes and images celebrating Aspen's spirit and history. The best viewing spot is Wagner Park, and it fills up fast, so stake out your spot well before 9:30. This is the signature moment of the entire weekend.
Sunday, July 5
Bluegrass Sundays | 12 PM – 3 PM | Sundeck, Aspen Mountain
Take the gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain and spend the afternoon with some of Colorado's best bluegrass bands and panoramic views of the Elk Mountains. A gondola ticket is required, but the experience is well worth it.
Gentlemen of Aspen Rugby Club vs. Vail | 1 PM | Wagner Park
Cap off the weekend with a little local sport. The Gentlemen of Aspen host Vail in an afternoon rugby match at Wagner Park. Free to watch, and a fun way to soak up the community atmosphere before heading home.
A Note on Fireworks
If you are coming to Aspen expecting a traditional fireworks show, you will want to know up front: Aspen does not shoot traditional fireworks and has not for a number of years. Given the region's fire danger during summer months, personal fireworks are banned throughout Pitkin County, and the city has replaced the traditional aerial display with an elaborate drone show. The drone show above Aspen Mountain is genuinely spectacular, and many visitors say it rivals or surpasses a traditional fireworks display in its creativity and scale.
Getting Around on the Fourth
