The Ute Indians were the original summer inhabitants of the Aspen area, and the Aspen Histocial Society is celebrating their culture by presenting a Ute Bear Dance Exhibition on Saturday and Sunday at Rio Grande Park. The presentations will take place from 10 am to 3 pm both days. Members of surrounding native tribes will host the exhibition, which will include the history and current practices of the bear dance, the meaning of the bear dance and dance etiquette. The Bear Dance is the Ute Indians' traditional spring social dance and attendees are welcome to participate in the dance. There will be an educational booth as well as native vendors displaying and selling their wares. The event is free to the public. Details at www.aspenhistory.org.
