We already knew that this was going to be a different kind of summer, but with today's announcement that the Aspen Music Festival and School was cancelling its summer season, we realize this is really different. This is the first time since 1949's Goethe Bicentennial Convocation and Music Festival, that the classical music festival hasn't gone forward. But even this event has a silver lining of sorts - now we'll have lots of time to explore our valley's hiking and biking trails to our heart's content during the weekends, when we would normally be hurrying to get back in time for a concert at the Tent or Harris Hall. The coronavirus pandemic has upended our lives, but we can still make lemonade out of an abundance of lemons.
