The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced that HWY 82 over Independence Pass is closed for the season. As with every winter, Aspen will become the town at the end of the valley, accessed only by Highway 82, which runs valley-wide from Glenwood Springs, connecting via I-70. Visitors planning to visit Aspen by vehicle in the coming months will need to plan to arrive from the west or fly directly into Pitkin County Airport (ASE). Due to the weekend's early snowfall, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Monday that Colorado Highway 82 Independence Pass has closed for the season to public traffic.

Independence Pass typically reopens for summer traffic around Memorial Day, weather permitting.  For more information on winter closures, visit COtrip.org
