Today's Aspen Times reports that the Aspen Skiing Company has launched its new top-to-bottom snowmaking on Aspen Mountain. The Times article stated: "For the first time ever, snowmaking guns were fired up on the upper third of the ski area. Prior to that, the existing system stopped at 10,600 feet." This is a big deal for Aspen Mountain, and has apparently been discussed since the late 1970s. The addition of upper-mountain snowmaking will allow for skiing the whole mountain during the early season, when snowfall is less reliable. With colder temperatures moving in this weekend, the snow guns will be able to be utilized to start building an upper mountain base. Woo - it won't be long until ski season's opening day on November 26!
