Ride for the Pass 2023 Event Details and Overview
The Ride for the Pass event is a challenging and scenic ride through Independence Pass, a high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado. The pass sits at an elevation of 12,095 feet above sea level and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The event is open to both family & recreational road cyclists.
The Ride for the Pass event has been held annually since 1995 and is organized by the Independence Pass Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting Independence Pass. The foundation raises funds through the ride to support its efforts in maintaining the pass and its surrounding areas.
The route for the Ride for the Pass event starts at the winter closure gate on Highway 82, just east of Aspen. “The Ride has two finish lines: The first at Weller Lake turnout, just over two miles from the starting line for families and recreational riders, and the second at the Independence ghost town site ten miles from the start. All riders doing the ten-mile Independence route are timed and included in the competitive category for their respective age groups; all Weller riders are untimed. In addition, E-bikes—category 1/pedal assist ONLY—are welcome to ride. They will be in their own, untimed category, starting 10 minutes after the timed riders, and will NOT be eligible for prizes associated with placing.” https://www.independencepass.org/2023-ride-info-and-faqs
