Although the weather is supposed to turn cold and rainy until the end of the week, the Ride for the Pass, planned for Saturday, May 20, may luck out with warmer temperatures and partly cloudy skies. The Ride for the Pass is an annual recreational ride and road bike race up Highway 82 towards Independence Pass. The Ride benefits the Independence Pass Foundation’s restoration work on the Pass. It's a great opportunity for riders to enjoy this beautiful Scenic Byway before it is opened to cars for the summer season.

The recreational finish line, for families and recreational riders, is at Weller Lake just over two miles from the starting line. Fun prizes and goodies will be given to all Weller riders, so bring (or pull) the kids! More serious racers will reach their finish line at the ghost town of Independence ten miles from the start. All riders doing the 10-mile Independence route will be timed and included in the competitive category for their respective age groups.
